When I met up with these two Arkansas sweethearts on Art Hill in St. Louis, I immediately knew that their session was going to be full of joy, laughter and connection. Man, was I right! The adoration that Abigail and Colton have for one another is absolutely undeniable. From dancing in the sunshine at the St. Louis Art Museum to snuggling on a bench at The Jewel Box in Forest Park, they were 100% smitten with each other. They are just a blast to be around! It’s so easy for me to snag images of their real, raw and authentic relationship together when they are so clearly closely connected to one another – those are the best types of sessions!
Abigail and Colton just recently celebrated their 1 year wedding anniversary and decided to plan a celebratory trip to St. Louis from Arkansas to go to a Cardinals game, get in some sight seeing and to have a photography session with me. Get this – Abby had been following me for quite some time on Instagram, so she immediately knew that she wanted to come to St. Louis for their trip so that she could book me for their Anniversary Session! What an honor!
This Arkansas couple met at the Wesley Foundation in college, after just discovering that they lived in the same dorm – they immediately became friends (which turned into more a few months later!). When Colton proposed to her, he planned a suprise birthday party just a few days before her actual birth date! Abby said that it was her very first suprise party and Colton made sure she would never forget it by proposing to her. After becoming engaged, they set their wedding date for June the 10th! They got married at Colton’s family church and held their reception at an open air barn. Their colors were white, green and baby blue with a bit of a timeless and rustic theme. Abby’s Grandmother always tells her that her wedding gown looked like something that Grace Kelly would wear.
Colton and Abby have a couple of ‘must do’ adventures, including going to every MLB stadium together and doing a backpacking trip through Europe! They two of them absolutely love to travel and explore different places. After now being married for officially a year, they’ve decided that their absolute favorite part about being married is being able to say goodnight instead of goodbye (AH! So sweet.). They told me that they have so much comfort in knowing they can fall asleep next to one another and make memories and new traditions with their beloved. Abby and Colton also told me that they really have found that in marriage, you have to talk about everything. Abby also told me that “Communication is key. Let them know when you’re running late or you’re uncomfortable and work through the hard stuff together.”
The two of them had an absolute blast on their anniversary trip in St. Louis and have even ranked it as one of their most memorable moments of their marriage so far! They also loved their honeymoon (of course!) and sharing their first Christmas together as a married couple. I asked Abby and Colton what three words they would use to sum up their life together. They answered me with: “In Mutual Weirdness. We took that from a Dr. Suess quote that says “We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”
Yup, I’m convinced that Abby and Colton are one of the cutest couples out there.
