Ina and David asked me to help them celebrate their relationship together, by giving them the (cacti) engagement session they never had. Man, were these babes SUCH an incredible joy to take images of – they were so present with one another, and intentional with the time the were spending together. It was such a dang treat to be able to be a part of. Here’s their story:
How They Met
Ina said: “In 2014, I was invited to a friends’ friend’s NYE party in Los Angeles and there I was amongst bunch of strangers, walks in two guys in tux looking like studs. One of the guys I recognized back from college, David, I barely knew him but I approached him anyway because I was seeking for some comfort from a familiar face in the crowd. I’m naturally a very reserved gal, but that night I was feeling like breaking out of my shell and having fun! Their party moved to a club called Cosmopolitan in downtown and there we were pretty much glued to each other, he bought me gin and tonic, he used his Australian accent to charm me, he held my hand, smoothed me into dancing and then we kissed. As the night ended and I headed back home, I thought to myself; what a wild night, this guy is amazing but I’ll probably won’t see him again, it was a good run, a fling. But! I had no idea that night was just the beginning to our journey into marriage together.”
“David used to live in Tucson and I lived in Phoenix, so we’d travel every weekend alternating to go see each other, and it was the weekend I was going down to see him, My brother and sis-in-law asked we go to U of A campus and tour around, I didn’t think much of it because it’s Tucson, what else are we going to do. They also wanted to take picture at this one spot, called The Old Main, it’s an iconic spot where everyone takes their graduation pictures. A historical building with a beautiful water fountain in front of it. When we arrived, the fountain was filled with sorority girls taking group pictures, I didn’t think much at the time but later heard that David was sweating balls waiting for those girls to go away(haha) I progressed to take pictures of my bro & SIL, and they casually encouraged us go stand in front so we did, and in the middle of posing, he BENT THE KNEE! He had planned this with my brother for some time so that we could capture this moment in camera. He video taped every second of it, long story short I ugly cried the whole clip. David told me later that he always dreamt of proposing in front of this fountain because his host parents got engaged in the very same spot decades ago and he’s a hopeless romantic at heart. But for me, it was just an old building(ha!) so naturally I didn’t suspect anything. And because of that I was so surprised and having my brother and SIL there to witness the moment together, it was very intimate and special all around.”
Their Life Together
“We are both introvert at heart but an extrovert when we want to be. Together we enjoy cooking at home, watching tv and unplugging from the world. But sometime we feel the need to go socialize with the outside world so we’d plan trips with friends and go traveling together or party it up! We want to get a puppy together! We’ve been talking about this for many years but our circumstance never aligned where we could afford having a dog in our lives. I tell him that if we had a dog, I’d annoy him less because I don’t leave him alone after he gets back from work(haha!). Another big “must do” list is to plan a wedding ceremony. We got married very small and intimate with our parents and an officiator so it’s still my big wish to have a ceremony where we can invite our close friends and family and share love and dance the night away.”
These babes are so incredibly sweet and obviously have such a deep care and passion for doing life together. Check out their intimate cacti engagement session by scrolling below!
