Whitney and Nick met up with me for their Central Phoenix Engagement Session at Papago Park a few weeks back while they were on a trip with their family. I absolutely loved getting to know the two of them, hear about their wedding vision, what they love to do together and so much more. But – I’ll let them tell you their story.
How They Met:
“We met many moons ago, on a school bus named “15”. Our houses were on the same route for years, until we grew old enough to begin driving ourselves. Nick and I dated briefly in high school, albeit fierce and intense like most high school “loves”. We broke up for reasons that we have yet to remember to this day, and saw other people for nearly 10 years. After graduating from college, traveling the world, and other various personal adventures of sorts, our paths crossed again out of seemingly nowhere.”
“Nick had surprised me with a weekend getaway to Asheville, NC! I went to a small college down there, so I was pumped to show him around my old stomping grounds and enjoy some romantic dinners and cozy nights in the YURT that we were staying in. It was our anniversary on the day that he proposed, and we had dinner plans at a very beautiful restaurant overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains (perfect). Well — not so perfect; it had been thunder storming and lightning all day long, and without my knowing, Nick was shitting his pants thinking that the restaurant may not be open to accommodating our reservation with the terrible weather. THANKFULLY he got word that the restaurant would be open for the evening, but he decided to change his plan anyways. On the deck of the yurt, in the middle of the woods, he hollered for me to come “look at this!” So I went, thinking there was an animal, or that he hurt himself or something (typical), and he pulled a ring out of the pocket of his rain coat and got down on one knee. Short and simple is our M.O. — so an easy “will you marry me?” was all it took for me to say “of course I will!” … We celebrated with a few quick shots of whiskey before calling an Uber to take us to our dinner reservations. Dinner was fantastic, we split a bottle of champagne (we kept the cork) and had an awesome rest of our trip!”
“We literally JUST got back from the coolest road trip ever. We visited the Tetons, Bryce Canyon, Fish Lake National Forest, Phoenix, AZ & a ton of little rinky-dink towns littering the West. We camped several nights, cooking meals over the fire, and stayed in a resort for a few nights as well. Nothing wrong with a little balance in life, lol. We logged 4,400 miles for the trip, and made a ton of super special memories. In about 6.5 hours from now, we are embarking on an 11 day haul up to Canada — I have a feeling that we’ll have a few more stories to tell when we get home. We Love BEING OUTDOORS, doing literally anything with our two dogs; Winslow and Brewster. Cooking (mainly eating) great food, playing board games, talking and laughing, hanging with our close friends and family, watching our favorite shows, and listening to new and old music!”
Nick and Whitney are planning for a simple, camp-themed wedding this Fall – I am absolutely SO excited for the two of them to be married and for the incredible adventures that lie ahead of them.
