Before we started Melissa and Ryan’s engagement session at Saguaro Lake, we sat at a picnic table and drank a beer together (their dog Atlas tagged along too!) As soon as we began talking and sharing life stoires, I knew I was in for a rad time with them. We talked about future dreams, past experiences and their upcoming wedding in Lake Tahoe. They then shared with me their story…let me just say: man, you’re in for a treat.
Melissa and Ryan met in high school through mutual friends and were immediately attracted to one another. They then went separate ways for a few years during college, before reconnecting with one another and ultimately making a decision to move from Wyoming to Arizona with each other. They love to take their dog (he’s a little pug!) on hiking adventures with them, giving the perfect alibi for Ryan to propose on their trip to Water Wheel Falls.
“It was Labor Day weekend. Whenever we have the time, we try to plan a little adventure with our pup – making nothing seem out of the ordinary. We planned a day trip on Sunday to go up to Fossil Creek. We were packed and ready to go in the car, when Ryan said he forgot something and ran inside. He was gone for about ten minutes and claimed he had been looking for his sunglasses, which was weird because he doesn’t normally care if he forgets them. I shrugged it off because I thought that he might propose in the past when ever he’s acting funky. We got up to Payson and stopped for lunch – I started mapping out Fossil Creek and found out that it was peak season and they only give out so many passes a day!! I was so annoyed, I can’t imagine how he must have felt after planning out his proposal in front of the legendary, Fossil Creek waterfall! We decided to make do and found a hike just outside of Payson, called Water Wheel falls. It was still a beautiful hike, featuring two waterfalls. During our hike Ryan kept bringing up getting a picture together, which was again WEIRD! Usually I’m the one grabbing a picture of us! Again I shrugged it off, thinking maybe he’s just being extra, super sweet. The hike was swarming with people, so as soon as we got away from the people Ryan spotted a guy and ran down to him. I saw him giving him his phone and whispering in his ear. Okay now this is getting really wacky! He ran back over and started shuffling through the back pack. He went with the sunglasses, excuse again, acting like he couldn’t find them. After the poor guy stood there with Ryan’s phone for about 5 minutes while I was just being a brat telling him to hurry, he pulled out the box and popped the question! I was completely caught off guard! It was so perfect! The camera guy was not meant to be a photographer but it was our moment. Our perfect little moment!”
Needless to say, I’m beyond stoked to celebrate with these two in Lake Tahoe next summer on their wedding day.
