On Memorial Day, I had the honor of doing a session with the Valentines. I posted on my Facebook about the two of them, but I want to be sure to include everything in this blog as well (the two of them really are incredible).
Candace and August met while in high school, and started dating on Candace’s 16th birthday. They have been together ever since, and tied the knot in 2014. Though they have been together for several years, they’ve spent a lot of their time far apart from one another.
These two are both Marine officers. Candace is a lawyer and a cheerleader for the Kansas City Chiefs (in high school, it was always my dream to cheer in the NFL!). She’s also cheered on many other NFL teams including the St. Louis Rams!
August is an Infantry officer, and was stationed in North Carolina for the past several years. Last weekend, Candace messaged me and asked if I would take pictures of the two of them because since they aren’t often together, they have very few pictures of the two of them. It was so important to me to really capture the genuineness of their relationship. I wanted them to be able to look back on these pictures and say, “yeah, that’s totally us.” It was so important to me because A) They have very few pictures together B) They go long periods of time without seeing one another and C) August left for Saudi Arabia for a year tour, the day after their session with me in Forest Park. Cue the waterworks, right?! I have so much respect for both Candace and August. They have an incredibly crazy, busy life but they make the sacrifices they need to make. I’m so thankful to have people like the Valentines apart of our Military. I could never imagine what it would be like to be away from my husband for any longer than a week, let alone a year. I thanked them so many times for their service.
Our military and their families give up so much for us to fight to keep us safe and to keep us free.
Thank you, Candace and August for your service and commitment to this country. If you’re reading this and serve/have served, thank you. You guys are seriously the real MVP’s.
