Liz message me a few weeks back and said that she had been dreaming about having some gorgeous Phoenix, Arizona anniversary photos. We met up last week and made this dream of hers come to life! Will and Liz met each other back in 2014, on each other’s first tinder date. Liz said: “We met at a really nice restaurant in Olympia Washington, where Will knew the owners and could impress me since he’s a Chef. This poor man bought $200-$300 dinners every other weekly date for the first 5 months we were together. When it was my turn, I was buying cheap take out since I was a single mom.”
Here’s how it went down: “We’d talked about it for a while, mostly Will wanted to be married but I didn’t for practical reasons. We were waiting for him to have good health insurance through his work and me to complete school so I qualified for financial aid, tax seasons to end, etc. We took Emma to see the new Beauty and the Beast at the mall and stopped at a jewelry store. We just decided to buy the rings when we came out of the theater and that we should stop letting all the practical stuff keep us from being engaged.”
“For our wedding, we had life just get in the way of us getting married a lot. We got engaged in March 2017 when we had been living in New York for a while. We were planning on an elopement in New York but I got pregnant unexpectedly with our son and wanted to move close to family. We moved to Tennessee in July 2018 and decided to just have it there so less people had to travel. Then my grandma got diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and we cared for her while she was in hospice, nothing else mattered at the time. We stayed unmarried so Will could buy her house and easily finance it quickly. Sadly, we ended up not buying the house and moving to Arizona instead in June 2019. We needed time to get our feet under ourselves and financially recover from another cross country move (our 3rd!). Then I got really sick in February 2020 with Covid and we got married at a local court house so that I could be added to his insurance as I lost mine when I left my job.
We are not very romantic people, we are calculated planners and life has thrown us through a lot the last few years. We didn’t mind not having a wedding we just wanted to be married in the first place so we are glad things worked out!”
“We’ve truly been through a lot in 6 years… For me, one that comes to mind is about 3 months into dating, I was trying to install a water heater for the bathroom sink at my newborn photography studio… I have a charming bad habit where I think I can do anything, if I watch a YouTube video on it… Well long story short I flooded the bathroom and I thought he would be angry. We stood there soaking, head to toe, with no change of clothes in the cold October weather in Washington… staring at each other once he got the water off… I was waiting for him to yell at me or something or walk away mad. He just laughed. We laughed together, fixed the sink and rode back to my place in soaking wet clothes holding hands. I pretty much knew then, that we were going to be together for a long time. The YouTube projects continue 6 years later!”
Once COVID passes, Liz and Will plan to travel again and go try out new restaurants all throughout the U.S. They also love to spend time with their two kiddos and two dogs! Getting to know the both of them for their Arizona anniversary photos was such a fun time.
