Gustavo and Kat met through mutual friends on instagram and have since been dating for 2.5 years! They met up with me for their Sedona engagement session two weeks back (a surprise to Kat!) – but before we dive into their EPIC images at the top of a mountain, let’s get to know the two of them and their story!
Their favorite adventure, prior to becoming engaged, was when they went to Big Bend National Park! They said “That trip was completely out of our comfort zone. We stayed in Airbnb dome that was somewhat “glamping” and we learned a lot about each other from that trip. That trip stripped us down from everything we knew from the city. We bonded throughout our day hikes and every night we popped open some beers to enjoy and appreciate the night sky we so rarely get to see. We had so much fun together we really did not want to go back home.” Let’s now fast forward a bit to their proposal story.
Gustavo said: “It all started in January 2019, when I decided to propose to my girlfriend. I started to look at rings and when I finally saw one I knew was right for her I decided to take her parents to dinner to get their blessing and permission (without her knowing of course). My mom and her parents were the only ones that knew I was going to ask. Once I decided I wanted to propose to her on our anniversary/her bday trip, I got in touch with you for the engagement photos because how could we pass up such an incredible opportunity to have the most amazing photos! Then I later decided to partner up with Jackie Boehme to record the whole thing at cathedral rock. It was so incredibly hard to keep all these secrets from her; for example telling her I found Jackie on trip advisor and a coworker had recommended to get one of our hikes recorded. One problem I encountered was hiding the ring from someone I live with for three months. Switching it between my luggage, then backpack, to my razor case throughout our Airbnb’s to make sure she didn’t run into it was tricky.” Kat told me that the best part about his proposal to her was “The fact that it was so unconventional, different, and unexpected! But I wouldn’t expect anything less from him. I was so surprised! I thought I would’ve known when he was planning on asking, but I was so wrong! I’m so glad I didn’t pick up on anything!”
Their Wedding Vision:
Now that they’re officially engaged, they can’t wait to start planning their wedding and make it a total reflection of them. They want to have an open bar and pizza at their wedding, before jetting off to Bora Bora for their honeymoon!
What They Love and Appreciate:
I asked Kat and Gustavo what they most love and appreciate about one another. Here’s what they said:
Kat: “I appreciate his patience with me most of all. God knows I needed someone with a lot of patience. When I doubt myself, he pushes me like no one else does and sees so much potential in me that makes me feel like I can do anything. What I love about him the most is he never fails to make me laugh and his love for family. He makes life so much fun and I’m so glad I get to laugh like I do for the rest of my life with my best friend.”
“Gus: I love that I’m going to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. She makes me want to be a better person. I wholeheartedly appreciate the fact that she came into my life. I 100% believe she was specifically made to be my wife.”
It’s safe to say that my time with them for their engagement session in Sedona was absolutely incredible – I loved being able to take their engagement images on the very SAME day that they became engaged! I’m absolutely thrilled for the both of them.
