Katlin and Philip became one this past Saturday at Smartt Field Airport in St. Charles, Missouri. Friends, it was so hot on their wedding day! We had a record-breaking temperature of 108 degrees with a ‘feels like’ temperature of 120 degrees. Let me just tell you, every single bridal party member was such an incredible sport about it. We made do with a secondary location for pictures so that we could all cool off in between. We drank tons of water and laughed off how terribly sweaty we were! Though their reception didn’t have air conditioning, everyone still danced the night away like it was only 70 degrees outside. It was such a joy and honor to be there capturing each and every moment of their big celebration of love, despite the insane weather. Here’s the inside scoop about Katlin and Philip and their perfect July wedding day:
They met when they were both working at King Edwards Fried Chicken. The two of them hit it off immediately! When Philip proposed, he got down on one knee not one, but two times. Katlin said that “The first time he proposed it was just basically to tell me he was going to be asking me. He didn’t have a ring yet, but I told him I was on the same page and I wanted to marry him too. Then on the 4th of July in 2016 he asked me while we were watching the fireworks down at St. Charles river front. It was so cute because he asked me to go out with him on the 4th of July, 4 years before that!”
Katlin has the best story behind searching for her gorgeous, absolutely perfect wedding gown. She had gone to three different bridal stores without feeling like she had found THE one! She had decided to settle with one she felt was cute, but wasn’t overly sold on it even though she had tried on so many gowns by this point. Katlin said that “the next day, my Mom and I went to this little dress boutique to look for bridesmaid dresses. When we went in, we asked her if she had any bridesmaid dresses. She said no, that she had to make room for prom season. She said she only had a few wedding dresses left and that she was getting ready to ship the last few out as well, and asked If I wanted to try some on. At first I said no, because I had already picked my dress. Then she said well it wouldn’t hurt to just try, so I said okay and she gave me three dresses to try on. As soon as I put the first dress on, I fell in love without even looking in the mirror. I walked out and my mom said ‘Oh Goodness Kate, that’s it. That’s the one.’ And I knew it was before I had even walked to the mirror. I said I know, I already love it. The owner gave us an amazing deal too because she was getting ready to send them to a wholesaler. We bought it that day, without telling my girls or anything. It was perfect.”
Katlin and Philip had many DIY elements, created mostly by her Mom and bridesmaids! Katlin’s brother even made a bar for her day – it was one of Katlin’s favorite DIY items and something that she told me she will always treasure. Their venue boasted a gorgeous ceiling, old planes and a wide open space to break it down on the dance floor. Smartt Field Airport was just incredible!
She told me that her favorite moment of their day was when she shared the first-look moment with Philip. She said that she was “…so nervous and so excited at the same time! I started crying before I even saw Philip. It felt like all the emotions that I had held in all morning just released.” Guys, I’m telling you. You HAVE to see their first look pictures – they are the absolute sweetest. Katlin also told me that another one of her favorite special moments of their day was when “My dad and I were dancing together, even though I have no idea how to dance. I was still trying to lead without even realizing it. I stepped on his feet so many times! When my step dad and I danced together he said something that will probably always stick with me. He told me that he’s always looked at me like a little girl but tonight he has looked at me like a woman. I have always known that he looked at me like that and him saying that was such a big deal to me. I was speechless.” One of MY favorite moments would have to be when her three maid-of-honors made multiple-song parodies in regards to Katlin and Philip’s wedding day as their toast. It. Was. Amazing. Be sure to check out those pictures!!
Guys, their wedding was so dang hot but so, so dang good. Katlin told me that if she had to sum up her big day, she would sum it up by saying that it was record-breaking perfect.
