Alison and Justin are two of the most adventurous, outdoorsy people I’ve met – they’re passionate about experiencing life with one another, with their pup Obi by their side. Get ready to read all about their adventures and proposal story, as told by Alison:
“We met while Justin was teaching a computer programming class at ASU as a first year graduate student while I was going back to school for aerospace engineering, and I was one of his students! Sounds scandalous, but we didn’t actually start dating until about a year and a half later when he was the TA for another one of my classes (he was not grading anything though, haha). After I graduated and he finished his graduate degree, we moved to Boston for 2 years so I could complete a graduate degree and then we both moved to LA together to work at SpaceX.
When Justin proposed, we were on the second day of a four day backpacking trip through the prettiest section of Tour De Mont Blanc in the French Alps. We had just climbed 1,500 ft of elevation and were hot and sweaty, eating lunch at the summit of one of the peaks. I didn’t notice at first when he got down on one knee because we were sitting on large, uneven rocks. He asked me to turn around after I had finished eating, and when I did he opened the ring box and said “Will you be my adventure partner forever?”. I laughed and said “of course!” with a giant smile. We wanted a picture so asked the next hiker who passed by, but we don’t think he liked Americans, as he responded to us asking (in French) if he spoke English with “Do you speak French?” in an annoyed tone. He took the picture anyway! We laughed about it.
We love being outside: camping, hiking, backpacking, fishing, off-roading, climbing, and lazin’ about by a campfire. When we’re not working, we try to make time to do those things (with our pup named Obi, of course!). We also enjoy cooking new things and breakfast is our favorite meal by far. We plan to one day hike with llamas in Peru, fish for salmon in Alaska, conquer Mt. Whitney, buy our dream house by the mountains, and eventually have children who can join in on the adventure! Our favorite part about wedding planning so far has been scouting the intimate location for the ceremony in Sedona with Obi and sampling cakes (although we’ll probably end up just making one, haha).”
It’s fair to say that I can’t wait to adventure around Sedona for their intimate wedding this Fall – it’s going to ROCK! (see what I did there?)
