Today’s blog holds something very special – a surprise proposal at Superstition Mountain! But for Matti and Cole, this was a decision that they had made together long before even officially becoming engaged. Here’s their story:
“We first met in high school. I was 13 and Cole was 14. Our official “dating anniversary” is February 8, 2010. We dated throughout high school, but chose to go our separate ways when we went off to college. We tried dating in college and the timing just wasn’t quite right. We wound up back together after we graduated and secured our first jobs in the same town. Nearly two years later and here we are planning our Arizona wedding.”
Cole then officially proposed to Matti during their ‘pre-engagement’ session with me while they were visiting Arizona from their home state! Matti said that she was “…caught off guard, thinking we were never going to be “officially engaged” as we are entering our third month of wedding planning for 2/8/2021. Cole told me all of what he appreciated about me, leading into a ‘will you marry me’ while down on one knee.”
Something that I really love and appreciate about Matti and Cole is that they had already begun wedding planning before even officially being engaged!! Matti said: “We were the crazies that started planning our wedding prior to being officially engaged. This was a choice we made together, knowing that it wasn’t going to matter whether we were getting married tomorrow or ten years from now — we wanted to be together and that was all that mattered. We knew we wanted to get married in Arizona and we didn’t want an engagement announcement to change that, giving others the time and opportunity to weigh in our decision. Our family’s and close friends knew and supported us and that’s all we wanted. We wanted this to be a decision made by the both of us, not just by one person in our relationship. When Cole got down on one knee, we both knew that this was a decision we had already made together. Not a decision made from surprise and expectation.”
These babes have a dog that they unexpectedly adopted together a year ago, and now can’t imagine living without him! Matti and Cole told me that their dog Birke is”…the light of our life. He rules the house. He’s our buddy. We love wrapping up our days on the couch cuddling with him. We also love doing home improvement projects on our 1969 house we own. We love biking around Lake Bemidji as we are located right off the bike path that loops around the lake. We love doing yard chores together — mowing the lawn, gardening, etc. We love entertaining family and friends. Going to the nearby state parks and trails with Birke. Lake weekends with our family in Grand Rapids – tubing, pontooning, garage sale-ing and more!”
Matti and Cole have a a goal of visiting all 50 states together one day, and want to eventually build their own home and run their own businesses.
I have absolutely NO doubt that their wedding day next winter is going to be absolutely incredible, and that they have so many more adventures ahead of them.
