Alright – grab a tissue box. You’re going to need it in order to make it through this entire blog!
Allyssa and Conner got engaged on November the 2nd and it was utterly perfect. Perfect weather, perfect reaction, perfect plan – seriously, it was perfect. I’ve gotten to know Allyssa over the past year, through our involvement in the wedding industry world. She is a wedding planner and coordinator for her business, Allyssa Elaine Events, and absolutely kills it. The first time I met her was actually when my husband and I posed in a styled shoot that she planned back in the Spring! The shoot back in March was gorgeous and so much fun to be a part of – I loved meeting both Allyssa and Conner’s sister, Dani, who just happens to be Allyssa’s roommate and co-worker for Allyssa Elaine Events! Since then, Allyssa and I have talked on many occasions about everything from crazy wedding days, beautiful shoots, favorite Netflix shows, and so much more. We have been involved in several shoots together, one of which was a surprise proposal back in September! Each time we work together, I’m continually blown away by her vision and eye for detail. She does an absolutely amazing job, and it is always such a joy to work with her! From our business relationship came a friendship, and she has since helped my hubby and I with painting our house, we have watched Parks and Rec together and she even came to a Fall Party that Matt and I hosted a few weeks back! Here’s the funny part: when Allyssa and Conner came to our party, they weren’t engaged yet. However, Conner and I had been talking for weeks about their coming proposal but had yet to meet in person! When they arrived at our party, it was super difficult to act like we hadn’t talked before and that they weren’t about to get engaged. I even shot a giant boho-inspired styled shoot (click here to see more from this shoot!) with Allyssa FOUR DAYS before their proposal, and it took everything in me to act normally! BUT – enough about me. Let’s hear from Conner and Allyssa!
They met on September 14, 2013. Conner, Allyssa’s older sister, and his older brother all went to college together. Victoria had been telling Allyssa about this guy that was really cute and loved Jesus and her sister told Conner that Allyssa was pretty and a good cook. So Victoria and Cole decided that they needed to meet each other. One day, Allyssa drove over to Quincy, Illinois where Conner was playing in a tennis tournament. They met, started talking and haven’t stopped since. They started officially dating on December 4, 2013, so they are coming up on their four year anniversary! Their best adventure that they have experienced together, aside from getting engaged, has been just living life together. They were long distance for over two years when they first started dating and they’ve gone from navigating that to supporting each other in school and careers to living close by and creating a life together. They said that having each other has been one of the greatest parts of life.
I asked Conner to tell me the whole story behind the proposal. Are you ready? Here it is!
“I had been looking at a million rings with my sister (who knows Allyssa’s style really well) and when we finally found one we liked, we had a mess of a time getting the store (which shall remain nameless) to cooperate. During this time, I had gotten the contact info for one of Allyssa’s favorite photographers and friend (I feel so honored!!) and started laying out plans. After we had set up a date, the ring ended up not being delivered as promised and we had to shift the date around several times. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise because the date Allison picked after rescheduling multiple times due to the ring, had perfect weather and perfect timing. It also gave us more time to prepare. I used my sister to help set up the pictures, lights, and flowers, and had my brother set up video cameras so we could relive the moment again later. I used a speaker Allyssa bought me to play a song we both love when she walked around the corner and everything went perfectly.”
I then asked Allyssa what the best part about the proposal was, and if she was surprise. She said…
“I don’t know if I could pick a best thing, it was all so completely perfect. Conner isn’t always a planner, so for him to meticulously map out each detail from the ring to the music to the location is absolutely overwhelming. I’m still tearing up when I think about it. I was so incredibly shocked. It takes a lot to surprise me and Conner is honestly the only person that’s ever been able to do that in my life. I love how much thought went into everything, especially when I heard about the months of planning that happened before the proposal actually happened. I also loved being able to share this moment with him, such a life-changing moment that gets to be ours forever.”
This sweet newly engaged couple is so looking forward to inviting all of their close friends and family to share in their special day with them. They can’t wait to celebrate with everyone that has been part of their lives, both individually and as a couple. Conner said that all he wants for their wedding day, is to be able to marry Allyssa. She told me that she really wants to have a private moment for them following the ceremony, where they can spend a few minutes as husband and wife (they both also said that cheesecake is a must at their wedding!). Conner said that he loves “her humility. I love how Christ-like she is and that there’s never been a moment where I’ve felt like I couldn’t trust her to come through in every single way. She’s everything that I’m not and she completes me.” Allyssa? She said that she loves “how much fun and laughter Conner brings to our lives. He always keeps me thinking positive, he gets me to be spontaneous, and always reminds me to let things go because of what is truly important in life.
Guys, I’m never going to be over how perfect, sweet, and special their proposal was. It was such an honor to have been apart of their engagement and it was so incredible to capture every detail that Conner spent time planning. Here’s to the rest of your life together, you two.
