Eric’s surprise proposal in the Arizona desert was nothing short of incredibly thoughtful. Katharina was 100% surprised when he got down on one knee, resulting in the sweetest evening with the two of them as they soak in those ‘just engaged’ moments. Here’s their story:
HOW THEY MET:
The two of them met each other on Bumble, in May of 2018! Since then, they’ve had some incredible adventures together. Here’s one of their favorite past adventures: “Katharina is from Germany and she still has family who live there. In September of 2019, we took a trip over to Germany to meet the extended family and experience almost 2 weeks in the motherland! We went to a local party, hiked in a national forest, toured around German cities, biked in the countryside, went to Oktoberfest, and spent time in the German Alps. It was an incredible adventure and one that allowed us to become much closer to each other!”
THE PROPOSAL:
Katharina and Eric shared with me the entire story – here’s what they said: “We originally had a trip planned to Sedona for April of 2020, but COVID put a stop to those plans. Later in the year, we found a deal on flights to Phoenix, so we decided to make our way out to Arizona for a long weekend trip. We love going to new places to hike, so I wasn’t expecting anything aside from a great weekend with my favorite guy. Typically when we go on trips, we plan for one fancy date night, and this trip was no exception. Eric told me that he found a company that does dinner parties in the desert, which would combine our love for both food and the outdoors. I thought nothing of this, until Eric told me that we had to be out there at 4pm, which seemed kind of strange for a dinner party. He fooled me by saying that there was a cocktail hour before dinner and that we needed to go on a short hike before the sun went down. That afternoon, we got dressed up in our AirBnb while Eric seemed a little too interested in what outfit I was going to wear. Meanwhile, I still couldn’t really understand why we were going to a 4pm dinner, but I went with it. Once we were ready, we drove out in our Jeep rental to the mountains, unaware of how nervous Eric was during this drive. After about 30 minutes, we made it to the location in the park. We took off down a trail towards the “dinner” and after a couple minutes of hiking, Eric turns to me and says “I have a white lie, there is no dinner”. I was originally confused by this, but then he got down on one knee and I was immediately overcome with joy! He popped the question and of course I said yes through the happy tears! Later during our engagement session with Allison, she asked us to name 3 things we loved about each other. I’m typically not great with my words, but naming things I love about Eric was SO easy!”
Here’s a few of the things they shared with me that they love and appreciate about one another: Katharina appreciates Eric’s patience, how much he does for her, his love for travel and that he’s her biggest cheerleader. Eric appreciates Katharina’s unconditional love, her quick witted sense of humor, her ability to pull off an impromptu dance move, and her skills in the kitchen!
This newly engaged couple can’t wait to put their own special touches into their wedding day plans and are most looking forward to doing extensive cake testing to find the perfect (and most delicious) one. Her family will be traveling to the U.S. from Germany, so they can’t wait to throw a once in a lifetime event!
