Jen and Shane met when they were 17 and 18, when Jen asked if Shane if he wanted to swing dance with her. They shared a song together, and didn’t see one another again until the end of summer. The next time they were around each other, Shane asked JEN to dance – he had taken lessons and learned to lead by that point. Jen said that the way the two of them “connected on the dance floor was magical and made me fall for him before we’d even had a first date!”
Shortly after falling in love, they were at Jen’s house (making out, ha!) when it suddenly dawned on Shane – he told Jen “I’m going to marry you.” He said that Jen smiled and looked him straight in the eye and said “I Know.” – they then realized the gravity of that conversation and laughed about it together!
They then went to a local jeweler where Jen picked out a ring that she liked – Shane then had a diamond placed that he had selected for the ring. Jen and Shane then took a trip to Boulder, Colorado soon after, to see if they wanted to move there together for Shane to attend business school. They both fell in love with Boulder – plus, Shane just so happened to bring the ring along with him on the trip! On their third day in Boulder, they went up to a lookout at the top of the Flatirons and watched the sun set over the Rocky Mountains. As the sun fell, Shane got down on one knee and asked Jen to marry him. Shane said “I remember being so nervous that I tried putting the ring on her right hand instead of the left!! Luckily for me, she still said Yes!” They then listened to a song called Forever by Ben Harper in the car on the way back down the mountain. Guess what? They ended up living in Boulder for almost 6 years!
Jen and Shane have been married for 14 years as of this past July, and together for 18 years. Their intimate destination wedding consisted of 50 of their closest friends and family, in Evergreen, Colorado at the edge of a lake surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. They had a relaxing, beautiful and awesome party with the people that matter most to them. Some of the things that made their wedding unique to them include: taking off their shoes right after the wedding ceremony, Jen collecting vintage plates and flatware for the place settings, having family-style Italian for dinner, asking a close friend of theirs to play acoustic guitar for their ceremony and first dance and using Jen’s mom’s 1965 convertible red mustang as their getaway car.
The Fellows love doing yoga with each other, dancing, seeing live music, camping, adventuring with their two kiddos and running their photography studio together (YES – they’re a photography team! So, so rad!). The two of them have shared incredible adventures together in their 18 years of being with each other, with their trip to India and Thailand to shoot a destination wedding being a top contender for their favorite adventure with one another. It’s so obvious that Jen and Shane share such a deep love and connection with one another, and it’s safe to say that it’s 100% communicated through the pictures I took of them at Torrey Pine Natural Preserve. Don’t believe me? Just check out their pictures at the top of the cliffs in Torrey Pine or their sexy beach images – scroll to see them all!
